Layering
Playing with scale and making things seem as if the they are larger or smaller than they truly are is something that has never really interested me but in this project i have found that i need to somehow make the subjects in my images feel as if they have no end. Initially i thought about my lens choice to achieve he desired effect however i was finding that the lenses ended up distorting the image or i was capturing certain elements that i didn't want in the images so i looked at other methods of trying to incorporate scale into my images. When i was looking through my sketch book for ideas that would help me to complete my new concept i came across the work of Henry Peach Robinson which at first didn't really seem as if it was relevant but as i read through my notes i had about him i saw that he used to layer negatives to create a print from two or more negatives and i saw that i could use this technique to layer some negatives to make my final images look as if they went on forever. As it is a technique i have never used i think it will be good to learn how to do this especially i the results are good.

Risk assessment
Risk assessment:
Set build
Trip hazards: strong possibility (*)
Fire hazards: strong possibility
Power tool hazards: strong possibility (*)
Crew safety hazards: minimal possibility
(*)
Model safety hazards: strong possibility
Set safety hazards: fair possibility (*)
Prop safety: fair possibility
Ventilation hazards: minimal possibility
Falling hazards: minimal possibility
In terms of the hazards that will present
themselves along the way to completing this assignment there will be a lot of
things to consider. Because we have been warned about the hazards and shown how
to properly use equipment it is unlikely that anything will happen but there is
still a possibility so it is important that the team does not take any
unnecessary risks.
Things that the team have been trained to
deal with correctly are highlighted with a (*). All of the other hazards will
have to be in mind when we proceed with the assignment. The model will have to
be briefed in what to do in an emergency and so will anyone else who may attend
along the way.

direction
After having my tutorial it was clear that people did not fully understand what my concept was so i have made the decision to change my concept so it is clearer and makes more sense. Feedback on my waste project was that it was too up in the air and didn't have any direction. My concept will now be to document the abundance of wasted tires in the medway area .In the first half of my project i found out that there are huge amounts of unused tires in medway both new and used and i think that by highlighting the fact that these tires are being wasted when they can be recycled will make my images a lot easier to comprehend.

Thoughts on tests
Although i need to shoot a lot more i think that i have found some really strong images i can easily return to when i shoot on film in the week. it has been refreshing to shoot on digital again and i feel by doing this i have a better chance of making good final images.
Wolfgang Tillman
Wolfgang Tillman’s set on headlights seems to almost humanize the subject
that are captured which is something that appeals to me because I have never
taken this approach to photography. The simplicity of these photos is really
what stands out to me from the set. Without over complicating the image it is
refreshingly easy to look at as I don’t feel like I have to look deeper and
make my mind work double time trying to understand it. The use of line in these
images also appeals to me as I find it to be one of the fundamental things I
want in an image.
Findings
According
to the Environmental Protection Agency, approximately 290 million automobile
tires are discarded by Americans every year.
Nearly 80
percent of these tires are being recycled and turned into commercially viable
products we can all use and enjoy. Some examples of use include:
--
Playgrounds: Recycled tires are shredded and spread like mulch to act as a
cushion against accidental injury.
-- Auto
Accessories: Some recycled tires make their way back to other automobiles. Once
the recycled rubber is ground and shredded, the used tires make exhaust pipes,
brake pads and insulation. Recycled tires are also woven into mats and used as
truck bed liners.
-- Civil
Engineering: Recycled tires are often ground into crumb rubber, the main
ingredient in rubberized asphalt for resurfacing roads and highways.
What
about tires collected for recycling in Flagstaff and Coconino County?
These tires are
transported to Crumb Rubber Manufacturers in Phoenix for processing into crumb
rubber. Next time you drive on the recently resurfaced portions of I-17 you
will be driving on crumb rubber collected through our local tire recycling
program.
Space
My research into how I can present my work
has lead me to try something out of my comfort zone as I have never presented
my work in a real gallery space so its something I need to adjust to. I feel by
doing something relatively different I will have a better chance of standing
out as it wont be the usual installation.
For my gallery space I intend to use tires
as an installation mounted on the wall witch actually contain my images.
Because in my images I intend to use a subject in the center of the image or
the subject will by isolated in the middle of the image with a lot of space
around the outside of it so it wont matter too much if the edges aren’t visible
because it would be on the inside of the tire.
It would be very easy to source some tires
but one thing that may be a problem is the actually mounting of the image
within the tire as it would have to be bonded with some kind of adhesive it
would ruin the print. Also as I found out through looking at the 3rd
years gallery space I would want to test a few different lighting scenarios as
the lighting in the their galleries often did not compliment the images in the
way maybe they needed.
I think I would use matte paper to combat
reflections from the brightness of the room and other highlights that might
occur due to the fact it will be in a open and public space.
Letha wilson
While I was looking into ways of mounting and
presenting my work I came across Letha Wilson. I had never really looked into
presenting my work in any other way than normal wall mounting until I saw Letha
Wilsons work. When I first saw it I was intrigued but I didn’t know what to
make of it. Looking at a whole installation instead of just the image has
started to appeal to me a lot more since I have been looking into this work. I
think that I could easily incorporate this concept into my final work.
